Visit Follonica
What to do

A lot of relaxation, nature and culture in the heart of Maremma.

Located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, Follonica is an ideal destination for those who want a holiday of relaxation, crystal-clear sea, sport and culture.

Although over the years it has become one of the most sought-after summer destinations in Tuscany, Follonica has much to offer all year round, thanks to its temperate climate and the activities that can be done.

Sandy beaches facing the island of Elba

Located at the centre of the gulf of the same name, with the Tuscan Mining UNESCO Geopark behind it, which protects the town from the tramontana winds, the sea of Elba Island opens up in front of Follonica and can be seen in the distance.

Beaches and sea are its flagship: Follonica has been 'FEE Blue Flag' since 2000 and '5 Vele di Legambiente' since 2017. The seabed, which is exclusively sandy and slopes slowly, allows for long walks, reaching up to 100 metres from the coast with the water still at your knees! This is exactly why the sea in Follonica is extremely safe.

Along the coast, numerous bathing establishments alternate with long stretches of free beach, allowing even those who do not wish to book a beach umbrella to go to the sea in complete freedom. Both free and private Bau Beaches are also present.

The Pine forest of Follonica covers the area behind the beaches, ideal for enjoying the coolness in summer, doing sports or taking long walks in all seasons.

Not only sea but also culture and experiences

Born only 100 years ago as a municipality, Follonica was in ancient times the natural access to the sea of the ancient medieval town of Massa Marittima, which can still be reached in 20 minutes by car.

In Follonica, don't miss a visit to the MAGMA (Museum of Cast Iron Arts of Maremma), one of the main museums in the Maremma, dedicated to the history of cast iron working. The Pinacoteca on the other hand, houses collections dedicated to local painters and the many temporary exhibitions that alternate. In the surrounding area, the Montioni Park is ideal with its walking and cycling routes for those who love history and nature.

Events and sports all year round

The town hosts events in every season.
The fireworks display on August 14th, the Piazza d'Europa Mercati dal Mondo on the last weekend of March, the Follos historical procession on the second Sunday in May, the Summer Night Festival in August, the Grey cat Jazz Festival, and the Mantovani International Guitar Festival are just some of the main events.

Follonica has also been named the City of Sport in 2023 and is the ideal starting point for cycling excursions along the coast or inland in the Maremma.
